In January 2005, the FAA mandated Flight Level 290 through Flight Level 410 as Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) Airspace. This airspace requires special approval for flight operations. Operators must submit a properly completed application to their local FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) each time an aircraft is acquired.
